Workshop: storytelling through cloth

Spend the day immersed in learning about how fiber arts projects have powerful impacts on telling stories, building community, and can create a space for healing. We will discuss several historical and contemporary artists whose work tells stories through cloth and cloth practices while we explore layering the stitched thread into new ways of communicating what is important to us. Participants will explore some possibilities that exist within the stitched thread making a series of samples or small story quilt.

Skills we will learn in this workshop include:

  • variety of embroidery stitches

  • appliqué

  • simple quilt blocks

  • textile collage using beadwork, paper, other textures

This workshop is great for beginners and for those with previous sewing experience.
